What is Hoodia Gordonii?
Hoodia Gordonii is a cactus-like plant and part of the plant family Apocynaceae. They are stem succulents that look similar to a cucumber that can reach up to 1 meter in height. Hoodia presents very large and colored flowers that give off a very strong and unpleasant odor. It thrives in extremely high temperatures in the high deserts of the Kalahari in South Africa. Although there are other species of hoodia, the gordonii is the only one that contains the appetite suppressing molecule. Whole hoodia powder contains variable amounts of fiber, organic material, antioxidants and biologically active substances including steroidal glycosides, which appear to fool the brain into thinking the stomach is full.

How Hoodia work to suppress appetite?
There is a part of your brain, the hypothalamus. Within that mid-brain there are nerve cells that sense glucose sugar. When you eat, blood sugar goes up and these nerve cells signal that you are full. The Hoodia Steroidal Glycosides is about 10,000 times as active as glucose. It goes to the mid-brain and actually makes those nerve cells react as if you were full. But you have not eaten. Nor do you want to.
