5 HTP

What is 5 HTP?

5-HTP is a derivative of the amino acid tryptophan (a hydroxyl group added to the 5-position). In the body, tryptophan is converted into 5-HTP, which then can be converted into serotonin (in the brain). Serotonin is an important brain chemical involved in mood, behavior, appetite, and sleep.

What is the effective dosage of 5 HTP supplementation?

  • 5HTP is very effective to relieve mild to moderate depression.

  • It reduces overall sensation of pain (migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, and general muscle pain)
